Authentic Presence | "On the most basic level, [the word] 'tathagata' has a connotation of authentic, authentic presence, authentic element, not a construct. So let's say, a cabbage is tathagata. Once there is Thousand Island [dressing] or vinegar or basil added to it, no more tathagata. Something that is not diluted, not contrived, not fabricated, not made up. Authentic. As it is.
"Buddha used to call himself many times [tathagata]. Instead of saying "Buddha said so, Buddha said this", he'd say "Tathagata said it". He called himself 'tathagata' and this is an incredible declaration, instead of calling himself Shakyamuni, or Siddhartha or even Buddha, awakened one."

Stupas are Buddhist symbols and building stupas, or visiting them, is a form of Buddhist practice, just like meditation or chanting mantras. Just one glimpse of a stupa can plant a karmic seed. In worldly terms, a stupa is a useless object, but on a subliminal level it can be very powerful. In this teaching, Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche introduces a range of practical meditation techniques to build the “inner stupa” inside ourselves, so that we can become “moving stupas,” benefiting all beings who interact with us. We should treasure and make use of these techniques but remember the ultimate goal of meditation: to find the truth.
