About Chimé Phagma Nyingthik
〝When the space of the unchanging three times,
Instantaneous, self-luminous awareness,
Arose in the form of a mudrā,
Uṣhṇiṣha Vijaya
Bestowed the accomplishment of unchanging permanence
On vidyādhara Shrī Sinha;
Deathless Yishin Khorlo
Bestowed the supreme empowerment of vajra life
On the great ācharya, Vimalamitra;
And the Lord of Life, the protector in union with consort,
Bestowed the empowerment of the state without birth or death
On Orgyen Padma Thödtreng.〞
-- from The Heart Essence of Deathless Ārya Tārā
In 1855 the great king of treasure revealers, Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo discovered the profound mind treasure of Chimé Phagma Nyingthik, the practice of White Tara in union with consort. This sadhana practice combines the three long life deities -- White Tara, Amitayus and Ushnisha Vijaya -- which were the means of accomplishing immortality by the three vidyadharas Vimalamitra, Padmasambhava and Shri Singha. Since its discovery this sadhana has been the main practice of many great lineage masters including His Holinesses Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and Dudjom Rinpoche, and it is held in the highest esteem by all lineages of Tibetan Buddhism. This practice is said to bring about power over longevity in the conventional sense as well as power over the longevity of the awakened state.
About The Great Lhatsun and the Rigzin Sokdrup
Lhatsun Namkha Jigme (1597-ca.1650) was a remarkable Tibetan Buddhist master, and the author of an important set of Buddhist teachings and practices known as the Rigzin Sokdrup - The Life-force Sadhana of the Vidyadharas. An accomplished yogi, or mahasiddha, he fully mastered the path of skilful means, as well as the path of the Great Perfection. He meditated and practiced in charnel grounds all across the Himalayan region, demonstrating extraordinary proficiency in yogic discipline. It is said that, in this present era, no-one has surpassed Lhatsun Namkha Jigme in yogic mastery.
Encouraged by his teachers, Rigzin Jatson Nyingpo (1585-1656) and Rigzin Düdül Dorje (1615-1672), the 'Great Lhatsun' opened up Sikkim as a sacred land, and at Tashidinghad a vivid visionary revelation in which Padmasambhava, Panchen Vimalamitra, and Yeshe Tsogyal bestowed on him the Rikzin Sokdrup. This cycle of Dzogchen teachings, with particular emphasis on the path of skilful means and yogic discipline, became the foundation for what is known as the 'Sikkim Tradition of Dzogchen'. It is in the RigzinSokdrup that we find the well-known Riwo Sangchoe offering ritual.
The Rigzin Sokdrup and Lhatsun's profound Dorje Nyingpoi Töllu - Spontaneous Song of the Vajra Essence both belong to the category of lineage known as 'Pure Vision', and are treasured as some of the most important Nyingmapa teachings. The unbroken lineages of these transmissions continue without decline until the present day. LhatsunNamkha Jigme was renowned as an incarnation of Vimalamitra, Princess Pema Sel, and the great omniscient Longchenpa. Later embodiments include the Khyentse incarnations.
