Owing to the overwhelming response from Dharma friends, we have to revise the Sur Offering notice as follows.

The important points to note are:

1. One participant to offer only one piece of used T-shirt (with label of “100% cotton”).

2. The anticipated time of stay in the venue is 10 minutes. Participants must strictly follow the organiser’s arrangement.

3. You must register at email address suroffering@gmail.com (we may change to a larger venue). For those who have previously replied to the lee_n_lee@yahoo.com, please register again at suroffering@gmail.com thank you.

4. This notice supersedes all previous email notices. Please read this notice carefully as it contains important additional information.

SUR Offering

Date: 25 March 2012 (Sunday)

Puja will begin at 5:00 pm and admission to the venue is allowed at 4:30 pm

(Tentative) Venue: Ku Dung, Sheung Shui, New Territories, Hong Kong

Dear Dharma brothers and sisters,

Some Hong Kong students have requested Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche to perform rituals for the benefits of all sentient beings as there are astrological predictions that disasters will happen in 2012. Rinpoche did not anticipate colossal disasters (Rinpoche’s comment on the Water Dragon year is attached below for information). Nevertheless, Rinpoche has kindly agreed to perform a Sur Offering ritual (a form of fire offering) in Hong Kong.

If you intend to join the event, you must register by replying to suroffering@gmail.com and provide the number of anticipated participants with names, because update or any changes of venue or cancellation of event will be sent to your email address on or before 22 March 2012. Deadline of registration is 18 March 2012.

Points to note:

1. Rinpoche’s instruction regarding offering substancesis that “each person should bring one piece of old T-shirt for burning. “

As there is past incidence of a fire puja being shut down by the environmental protection department due to black smoke from burning synthetics, we only accept offering of used T-shirt with label of “100% cotton” and without buttons/zipper or the like. Do not offer underwear. You should not bring other kind of offering substance.

2. For the sake of safety, every participant must undertake to strictly follow the instructions of the organiser regarding safety measures and crowd control. Owing to the small size of the venue and the overwhelming number of participants, it is possible that each participant can only stay at the venue for a short time (say 10 minutes).

3.Detail information and location plans of the venue in Ku Dung, Sheung Shui, New Territories are shown on the attached diagrams.

The entrance of the venue is located near the junction of Ching Shan Road ( Ku Dung Section) and the Sheung Yue River. Follow the footpath shown on the diagram and take a 5-minute walk to the venue. There is no parking space at the venue. The recommended transportation would be by taxi from Sheung Shui KCR station.

4. The duration of puja will depend on the amount of old clothes offering to be burnt. Thus, you are strongly recommended to bring a torch for the walk back to the main road after dark. Please bring your own drinking water and mosquito repellent as necessary.

火供

各位師兄:

基於某些天文現象，有人預測 2012 年可能發生重大災難，香港的師兄弟懇請 宗薩 欽哲 仁波且 悲憫眾生，舉行密宗法事祈福。 雖然仁波且並不認為會發生重大災難，(請參閱附文有關仁波且對於 2012 年的看法)，但他還是慈悲地答允，在香港舉辦一場火供。

如有意參加火供，必須回覆電郵至suroffering@gmail.com 登記參加人數和人名。因為本會將於2012年3月22日或之前， 以電郵通知大家任何更改事項，例如更改會場地點或取消法會。 敬請留意，最後登記曰期為2012年3月18日。

注意事項：

1. 仁波且有關供品的指示：每人祇可攜帶一件舊 T 恤 來燒。

過往曾有事例，由於燒化學纖維的衣物釋出黑煙， 火供被保護環境部門腰斬。故本會祇接受有100％純棉質標簽的 T 恤，衫上不要帶有鈕扣、拉鍊或人造飾物。不要供內衣褲。 請勿帶來其他的供品。

2. 基於安全考慮，各位參加者必須嚴格遵守大會之安全措施， 和有關人流控制的指示。鍳於會場面積不大和參加者眾多， 各位可能衹准在會場短暫逗留（可能是10分鐘）。

3. 請參考咐圖有關火供地點 --- 新界上水 古洞

火供場地入口位于青山公路(古洞段)和雙魚河交界處。 請依圖示之路徑步行約十分鐘扺達會場。場地不設泊車位， 各位從上水火車站乘坐的士前往會場入口處為佳。

4. 火供時間之長短將取決于舊衣物供品數量。請帶備手電筒， 用作法會完結時行返大路之照明。請按個人需要自備飲品和蚊怕水。
